The brewery was founded as " De Hert "; in approx. 1686. After Belle Vue, De Keersmaeker is the largest lambic brewery in the Pajottenland (a Flemish area), where traditional geuze is produced on a large scale. The Mort Subite beers are well known, also across the borders. About 40 % of production is exported. Before Alken-Maes took a 50 % share in the De Keersmaeker brewery in 1989, they used to brew a special beer, called Hert-Ale, and a pilsener called Kob. In 1990, De Keersmaeker took over the Eylenbosch brewery for 99 %. The enormous lagering capacity of Eylenbosch is used to let the lambic mature for the Mort Subite. Guided tours are possible.
